PSHE

At Stourview C of E Primary Academy, we believe that Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education plays a vital role in helping every child develop into a confident, compassionate and resilient individual. Our curriculum is centred on promoting positive well-being, enabling children to understand themselves, build healthy relationships and develop the knowledge and skills they need to thrive both now and in the future.

Jayne Crowley, our Head of School is our subject leader and we deliver our PSHE curriculum through the Jigsaw programme, a comprehensive and progressive scheme of learning that is fully aligned with the statutory Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) requirements. Jigsaw supports children to develop emotionally, socially and morally while covering the key areas of mental health and well-being, relationships, physical health, online safety, personal safety, citizenship and economic well-being. The curriculum reflects the latest RSHE guidance, ensuring learning is age-appropriate, inclusive and relevant to the world in which our children are growing up.

At the heart of our approach is a commitment to children's well-being. We recognise that happy, healthy children are better equipped to learn, achieve and contribute positively to their communities. Through carefully planned lessons, meaningful discussions and opportunities for reflection, children are encouraged to develop self-awareness, resilience, empathy and respect for others.

Each half term, the whole school comes together around a shared well-being theme. This whole-school focus allows children of all ages to explore a common value while embedding learning across the wider curriculum through assemblies, collective worship, classroom activities, reading, enrichment opportunities and everyday school life. By revisiting these themes in different contexts, children are able to make meaningful connections between their learning and the choices they make each day.

Our PSHE curriculum is rooted in our Christian vision, "Nurturing hearts and minds. Building futures." We strive to nurture children who are kind, respectful and courageous, equipping them with the knowledge, character and confidence to make positive choices, build healthy relationships and become responsible citizens who can make a difference in the world around them.
